Academics, doctor win accolades for research

A doctor at Siriraj Hospital, who has devoted himself to studying the dengue virus, and five university professors have been named



Outstanding National Researchers for this year by the National Research Council of Thailand. 

 

Besides being hailed top researcher in medical science, Dr Preeda Malasith received an award for his work into the dengue virus which the NRCT recognised as an outstanding project.

The other five researchers named for 2007 were: Uthairat na Nakorn of Kasetsart University; and Tawatchai Tantulani, Chalong Suntornwanich, Weerapong Bunyapas and Suwimol Wongwanitch, all from Chulalongkorn University.

The awards for research are presented annually by the NRCT, recognising work for at least five years on significant projects.

Yesterday's award ceremony was held at the opening of the first International Inventors' Day Convention at the Impact Convention Centre. Each winner received a cash award of Bt300,000 and a medal.
