Danai in TCL semi-finals

Danai Udomchoke reached his first Challenger semi-final in more than a year after he beat Philipp Oswald of Austria 6-4 6-2 in the US$50,000 China TCL Challenger in Guangzhou yesterday.

But the Thai No 2 and American Phillip King lost the doubles final to Chinese top seeds Xin-Yuan Yu and Shao-Xuan Zeng 6-1 3-6 5-7.

The fifth-seeded Danai will today take on Australian top seed Chris Guccione, ranked 89, who recorded a 7-5 4-6 6-1 win over Taiwan's Ti Chen in his quarter-finals.

"It will be tough as Guccione reached the final in Sydney by beating players like Lleyton Hewitt and Thomas Berdych. He is left-handed, and that will make it difficult for me to return his serves,'' said Danai, who last appeared in a Challenger semi-final in Busan, in November 2006.
