Thais score easy victory in warm-up

Thailand earned a confidence-booster ahead of their World Cup qualifying campaign next week with an impressive 2-0 victory over South Korea's 2005 K-League champions Jeonbuk Motors in a friendly at the Rajamangala National Stadium yesterday.

Experienced forward Sutee Suksomkit put the home team in front just before the break with an exquisitely taken free-kick. Pichitpong Choeichiew, who came in as a second-half substitute, wrapped up the match just after the hour mark.

Coach Chanvit Pholchivin was understandably happy with the outcome, which he said would make his team feel confident before the third qualifying round. "The victory will boost our confidence. Our overall performance was fine. Today, I wanted to evaluate our counter-attacking and passing game.

Chanvit said he is still in the process of finalising the line-up against Japan, who have featured in the World Cup finals since 1998. The defence is an area of concern, where he was left with only one fit centre-back in Patiphan Petchphun.
