Matchima to elect new leader, Anongwan tipped

The Matchima Thipataya Party has scheduled to elect its new party leader next month, replacing Prachai Leophairatana who resigned on December 4.

"The party executive board and Matchima's MPs have jointly agreed to hold the annual convention on February 17 to elect a new leader," party secretary general Anongwan Thepsuthin said on Friday.

Anongwan said she would leave it up to every party member to decide on the leadership, reacting to speculation that she might be a top contender for the job.

Party deputy leader Banyin Tangarporn said he expected the upcoming party convention to resolve the confusion attributed the job status of Prachai.

He also said the date for the convention might be rescheduled if caretaker party leader Pramuan Phairatana could convince the party executive board. Pramuan was absent when the date was set.
