Geo Decor's unique retro designs give new life to everyday objects

Weekend picks

A group of art lovers are showing off their imaginations with vintage graphic designs on items for home and garden under the label Geo Decor. The store is run by Lips magazine editor Sakchai Guy (better known as S Guy), designer Metta Tantisajjatham and businesswoman Kanokwan Wongwattanasin. The group recently relocated to a more visible building right on bustling Soi Thonglor.

Around four years ago, five artistic partners set up the two-storey Geo Decor boutique at the H1 shopping mall on Soi Thonglor. The store offered an innovative line of stationery, decor items, accessories, and collections of street-wear fashion by Thai designers and other products from abroad. The brand became more widely known for shoppers who love creatively designed products after debuting at the 2005 Bangkok International Gift and Houseware fair (BIG+BIH).

As in their early days, Geo's first floor still contains a comprehensive range of decorative items, writing materials, garden tools and accessories. At the heart of Geo's designs are vintage-style products that come in earth tones. The collections are inspired by flowers, animals, insects and nature and are mostly made from soft fabrics and leather.

The products include ceramic vases, shot glasses, glasses, ceramic boxes, notebooks, wooden rulers, pencils, handbags, key rings, name card cases, wallets and storage boxes. The owner, S Guy, uses his collection of floral photographs to make a line of beautiful cards and wrapping papers.

Customers can discover an attractive range of decor items and garden tools imported from Europe and the Philippines, including chandeliers, ceramic vases, zinc flowerpots and glassware.

On the second floor, the store presents a showcase of street-wear fashions by Thai designers from Realistic Situation, Overuse, Vickteerut and the Althemist. Also on display are creations of modern-style jewellery from Jogema, Matina Amanita, Missile and Trimode.

Geo Decor exports products to North America, Japan and Hong Kong and has showcased its collections in the annual Bangkok International Gift and Houseware fairs. They can also do custom orders.
