BankThai shares all taken up

BankThai completed its latest recapitalisation after the Financial Institutions Development Fund and TPG Newbridge paid more than Bt1.9 billion for the 1.4 billion shares that had remained unsold from its rights offering to existing shareholders.

The two major shareholders bought the additional shares for Bt1.38 each, BankThai president Phirasilp Subhapholsiri said yesterday.

The FIDF took 617.51 million shares worth Bt852.17 million, while TPG Newbridge bought 784.25 million shares for Bt1.08 billion.

Following the capital increase, the holding of TPG Newbridge, through Newbridge Sukhothai Netherlands BV, increased to 36.74 per cent and the holding of its group - including Blum Strategic III BT Hong Kong and MSOF Hong Kong BT - increased to 42 per cent. The FIDF's holding is also raised to 42.13 per cent.

According to the bank, the share purchases by the FIDF and TPG Newbridge were the result of the second round of recapitalisation involving 4.45 billion shares worth Bt6.08 billion.

BankThai now has registered capital of Bt25.03 billion.
