"The EC always works under the principles of an independent organisation," secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaigarn said yesterday, shrugging off the comings and goings of governments.

Before the December 23 election, many voiced concern about pressure from the Council for National Security but the EC could overcome every obstacle to restore democratic rule to the country, he said.

"As an organisation standing midway among rival camps, the EC can't avoid criticism but is determined to do its job without harbouring false hopes of pleasing all sides," he said.

Meanwhile, the December 23 poll drew to a close yesterday with the EC completely endorsing all 480 MPs.

"The EC has just finished its job in filling every House seat," secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaigarn said.

The final batch was three MPs from two constituencies.

Two of the MPs - Kiartikorn Pakpiansin from Prachin Buri and Pornthiwa Nakhasai from Chai Nat - belong to the Matchima Thipataya Party, while MP Chaiwat Sapruangthong represents Chai Nat for the People Power Party.
