In its most recent efforts, the company has announced that it will start growing a 30-rai "eco-forest" at its Ban Pho plant in Chachoengsao province.
It has also upgraded its core passenger-car models, the Vios, Yaris and Camry, as well as the Corolla Altis, which will be launched later this month, so that they can run on E20 gasohol.
The company says when it is fully grown, the forest will absorb 60 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, resulting in a better working environment for its employees and for the surrounding community.
"Our intention is to be a company that is environmentally responsible and one that grows with society," Toyota Thailand's president Mitsuhiro Sonoda said.
The Ban Pho plant, which is one of Toyota's five model ecological plants around the world, boasts several environmentally friendly technologies. They include a large solar-cell array and natural-gas-powered co-generator to produce electricity; and a regenerative thermal-oxidising incinerator to reduce the amount of hydrocarbons released into the atmosphere.
The plant also uses water-based paint, recycles the water and maintains a zero-landfill policy.
Toyota Motor Thailand also sponsors several ecological projects, such as the Thai Environment Institute's "Stop Global Warming" project and reforestation projects at the Khao Angrue Nai Animal Reserve and the Sirindhorn International Environment Park.
