Chicken, gems and jewellery exports to plunge this year

The Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) said on Tuesday that it forecasted that frozen and processed chickens, gems and jewellery, and printing industries would ecelerate their export growth substantially this year.

The export growth of these sectors will plunge as a result of many negative factors such as the rising of raw material, stricter trading measures, and bird-flu epidemic.

However, the OIE is still confident that the gross domestic products in the industrial sector will expand around 5.1 per cent to 5.5 per cent this year, similarly to 5.3 per cent last year.

"Despite less export growth in some industries, the overall industrial export keeps expanding in the safactory level," said director-general Atchaka Sribunruang Brimble.
