EC decision on parties this week

The Election Commission will decide this week whether Matchima Thipataya and Chart Thai parties are liable to be disbanded because their executives are accused of electoral fraud.

Sodsri Satayathum, an EC member, said the subcommittee investigating the matter had questioned all witnesses except Matchima Thipataya executive Sunthorn Wilavan, who was disqualified by the EC on a charge of violating electoral law.

She said if Sunthorn still failed to show up for questioning, the EC would make its decision without his input.

"I hear the subcommittee proposed that Matchima Thipataya be dissolved," Sodsri said.

However, it is not certain that election commissioners will agree with the subcommittee's proposal, she added.

As for Chart Thai, whose executive Monthien Songpracha was disqualified, Sodsri said the EC would make its decision in the same way as it would in the Matchima Thipataya case.
