"We have found that students from top universities had assumed the identity of some applicants when they reported to the exam rooms," the department's deputy chief Maj General Adul Ubon said.
The exams covered areas such as Thai language, English language, general knowledge and basic computer.
The Royal Thai Army has 200 vacancies in its registrar division, but more than 7,700 people had applied for the jobs.
Adul said all cheaters face legal action and were disqualified from the exam.
