One early afternoon raid was at Ban Du Song Yoh in Chanae district, the location of the January 14 ambush.

Three suspects were apprehended and electric wire, wrapping paper and documents were seized.

In Rangae district, 100 soldiers surrounded Ban Bangoh Guboh, arresting another nine suspects, including Abdullah Ketong, who was wanted in connection with several attacks.

The raids were part of a campaign to capture militants responsible for violence in the predominantly Muslim region. More than 2,800 people have died in attacks since the beginning of 2004. Separately, in Pattani a local Muslim was shot dead while riding a motorcycle home from a mosque. Ahama Sama-ae, 49, was killed in the drive-by shooting about 2pm in Khok Pho district. Police suspect militants.

In Muang (city) district, suspected militants launched grenades into the home of retired forestry official Chana Turitakom. There were no injuries but a sedan vehicle was damaged, Chana said.
