The hosts continued their superb form yesterday to add 55 gold medals to the tally of 136 for the aggregate four-day haul of 191 gold, 84 silver and 76 bronze medals.
Vietnam are trailing a distant second with 60 gold, while Malaysia are hot on their heels with 58 gold medals.
The hosts are quite certain of retaining their overall crown thanks to their superb tally.
Among the 55 gold medals they captured yesterday, 16 were won in athletics and four apiece from judo and tennis. Defending shot-put champion Wanna Ladee, whose right leg is crippled, retained her crown with a record-shattering effort of 7.67m.
At the previous Games in the Philippines, Wanna caused a stir when she, having kept officials in the dark about her pregnancy, gave birth to a baby girl just two days after winning two gold medals and one bronze at the Games.
"It's the best performance of my life. The gold is for my family, especially my daughter Manila, who is now two years old. I still have two more events to compete - javelin and discus, and I will try my best to win both," Wanna said.
In addition, Thailand claimed one gold in fencing and two gold in archery
yesterday.
The closing ceremony will take place tomorrow.
