More by-elections

By-elections will be held in Chiang Mai soon after complaints against elected MPs, the provincial Election Commission director said.

National EC chief Apichart Sukhagganond vowed to conclude probes into all allegations of election fraud by the end of next month. Any prosecutions will be sought in March.

Chiang Mai election director Pongphan Riwthongtawee said several cases to answer had been found after 20 investigations.

He expects several by-elections to ensue. Some red cards are expected, too.

Complaints were made in four constituencies and involving several parties.

He said the commission would wind up all electoral-fraud allegations, including that against House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat, by the end of February. Prosecutions would be put to the Supreme Court in early March.

Yongyuth's position as House Speaker would not affect judicial proceedings, Apichart said.
