The motorcycle market will reach 1.6 million units this year, the local Honda manufacturer said yesterday.

Zenjiro Sakurai, president of AP Honda, said the motorcycle industry would be stagnant this year. While the baht strengthens and oil prices keep rising, the new government should boost confidence. However, the fallout from the US sub-prime crisis should be limited.

The company has not yet benefited from scheduled tariff cuts under the Japan-Thai Economic Partnership Agreement. It expects flat sales this year.

B2 back on target

Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amranand flip-flopped yesterday, saying the launch of B2 diesel at all service stations was back to its original schedule of February 1, after it had been decided to delay full implementation by a couple of months.

Piyasvasti said a palm oil and biodiesel inventory check showed that output was sufficient to support the production of B2. The Agriculture and Commerce ministries confirmed the planned import of 30,000 tonnes of crude palm oil would ensure enough stocks.
