Artists urged to honour Princess with works

Artists will be asked to create paintings or multimedia about the work of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, the Culture Ministry said.

The work will be shown at an exhibition called Saeng Nueng Khue Rung Ngam, or Spectrum, and included in commemorative books about the Princess.

The elder sister of His Majesty the King passed away aged 84 on January 2.

Culture Minister Khunying Khaisri Sri-aroon yesterday said the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture would hold the exhibition when the royal crematorium was completed. Its construction will start soon.

Phra Raja Gura Vamadevamuni, the chief Brahman priest of the Devasathan Temple, yesterday said priests were ready to conduct rituals for the construction, but would wait for the Royal Household Bureau to identify when the rituals should take place.

"Astrologers will usually first identify an auspicious time," he said.

Thanachai Suwattana, who heads the Office of Traditional Arts, said it would consult the bureau about an auspicious time for the rituals for the repair of royal chariots, too.

The children of Their Majesties the King and the Queen yesterday hosted a royal merit-making ceremony in dedication to the Princess at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn arrived at the throne hall around 10.30am to attend the ceremony.

Members of the public were allowed to enter the throne hall to pay their respects to the Princess between 2pm and 4pm.

Religious Affairs Department director-general Sod Daengied said it invited senior monks from temples to conduct prayer services for the Princess, both at day and at night for 100 days.

"We have made necessary preparations for the royal merit-making ceremony to mark 50 days since the Princess passed away," he said.
