B2 schedule refixed on February 1

Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amranand yesterday reversed the earlier decision on B2 sale, saying that the fuel would become a standard product at all oil service stations from February 1 onwards.

Earlier, the ministry planned to allow oil retailers to mix diesel with only 1 per cent of pure biodiesel at times of shortages of palm oil - the main raw material for biodiesel production.

However, Piyasvasti said on Thursday that the latest palm oil and biodiesel inventory check showed that the output is sufficient to support the production of B2, of which biodiesel content is 2 per cent. The Agriculture and Commerce ministries confirmed that the import of 30,000 tonne crude palm oil would ensure sufficiency.

"Thus, we will maintain the original schedule of February 1," he said.
