SCB puts Bt5 billion on offer

Siam Commercial Bank is offering Bt5 billion in loans to small and medium-sized enterprises.



Under the programme, in collaboration with the Federation of Thai Industries, it will lend a maximum of Bt100 million to each SME. The federation has about 4,000 SME members.

Liquefied natural gas

South Koreans to build plant

A South Korean consortium yesterday won a US$540-million (Bt18 billion) deal to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant here.

The consortium led by GS Engineering & Construction will break ground for the plant next month, with the aim of completing it by June 2011, the builder said in a regulatory filing. GS said in a filing to the Korea Exchange that it had signed the contract with PTT LNG.

Sahaviriya takes on protesters

Sahaviriya Group yesterday filed charges with the Bang Saphan police in Prachuap Khiri Khan against individuals for disrupting its building of a canal.

The group said it had decided to go to the police as the protesters refused to leave the site and the stand-off could cause safety problems. It also said the protest could cause financial damage to the firm.

Passengers face fare increase

Subway fares are likely to be raised from Bt15-Bt39 to Bt16-Bt42, Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand governor Praphat Chongsanguan said yesterday.

He said the increase would be in line with its concession rights, which allow concessionaire Bangkok Metro to raise fares once every two years.

The MRTA is preparing the proposal and will submit it to its board for approval on February 1.

Rapid-train fares to be cut

The State Railway of Thailand will from February 1 reduce its rapid-train fares on journeys of less than 300 kilometres.

The first 50km will cost Bt20. For 150km and 300km trips, the fares will be Bt30 and Bt50, respectively. The SRT said it wanted to promote rail travel at times of high petrol prices.
