Keane praises Tottenham side after reaching Carling Cup final

London (dpa) - Tottenham Hotspur captain Robbie Keane praised his side after they crushed Arsenal 5-1 at White Hart Lane on Tuesday to reach the final of the Carling Cup.

The Spurs will meet Everton or Chelsea in the final.

Level at 1-1 after the first leg, Jermaine Jenas put the home side ahead after three minutes and Nicklas Bendtner headed an own goal to double the Spurs' lead.

Keane made it 3-1 three minutes after half-time and Aaron Lennon put the game beyond Arsenal's reach with the fourth on the hour mark.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored a consolation with 20 minutes to go but Steed Malbranque slotted a fifth in injury-time.

"I'm really pleased for the lads, they worked their socks off today and the result was well deserved," Keane said. "I'm absolutely delighted.

"I've been here a long time, it's been a long wait to get to a final, but it's been worth the wait. I know how much it means to the players and also the fans."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger defended his policy of using young players in the competition.

"We go into every season with that priority in terms of the competition. They have potential," he said.

"It is a disappointment because we lost, of course but I feel that everything went against us.

"We were always running after the score, taking risks and being at risk to the counter."
