thai juniors advance

Top Thai juniors Kittipong Wachiramanowong and Noppawan Lertcheewakarn moved into the third round of the junior Australian Open following contrasting wins yesterday.

Published on January 23, 2008

Kittipong, seeded 13th in the boys event, cruised past Australia's Alex Sanders 6-2 6-2 whereas seventh-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn fought back from 1-5 down in the second set to survive the girls singles second-round clash against Australian Brittany Sheed 1-6 7-6 (7/1) 7-5.

Noppawan later picked up her second win of the day, teaming up with Sophia Mulsap to beat Taiwan's Hao-Ching chan and Japan's Shiho Otake 6-4 6-0 in the girls doubles second round.

However, two other compatriots failed to emulate them. Peerakit Siributwong fell to Japan's  Tadayuki Longhi 4-6 4-6 in the boys and Khunpak Isaara went down to Romania's Simona Halep 0-6 0-6 in the girls singles second round.
