The activists were all smiling when they showed up at the Metropolitan Police Bureau at around 9.30am.

Dozens of their supporters held a rally in front of the bureau's headquarters, con?demning police for taking action against them.

The 10 were Jon Ungphakorn, Pairoj Polpetch, Sirichai Mai-ngarm, Sawit Kaewwan, Supinya Klang-narong, Saree Ongsomwang, Amnat Palamee, Nutzer Yeehama, Anirut Chaosanit and Pichit Chaimongkol.

About 150 police officers closely monitored the situation to ensure the supporters did not get carried away.

Police questioned the leaders for four hours.

They face charges of intrusion into a government compound, destroying state property, gathering with more than 10 people to cause trouble, collaborating with more than five people to force others to break the law, illegally detaining other people, and using a loudspeaker without permission.

Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Maj General Jade Mongkolhatthee said the 10 suspects asked for 15 days to gather evidence to rebut the charges against them.

"We have agreed to their request. They will have to report to investigators again on February 6," Jade said.
