Garitano quits Zaragoza after just one week

Madrid - Ander Garitano has quit as coach of Liga side Zaragoza after just one week, AS and Marca reported Tuesday.

Zaragoza have not yet made an official statement, but it appears that Garitano has quit because club president Eduardo Bandres has refused his request to sell indisciplined Argentine midfielder Andres D'Alessandro.

Garitano has only been in the job since January 14, when he took over from the sacked Victor Fernandez, who also had massive problems with D'Alessandro.

Garitano's only match in charge was a 3-1 home win over Murcia on Sunday, which leaves Zaragoza in 11th place.

AS and Marca reported on their websites that Bandres was already negotiating with Javier Irureta.

Irureta, who took Deportivo Coruna to the Liga in 2000 and to the Spanish Cup in 2002, has been out of work since being sacked by Betis last season.
