Yongyut elected House Speaker

People Power Party MP Yongyuth Tiyapairat was Tuesday elected House speaker and Parliament president.

He beat Democrat Party nominee Banyat Bantadtan 307 to 167 votes .

However political observers noticed three votes that went to the Democrat Party were from the coalition government camp because the Democrat Party has only 164 MPs.

People Power Party MP Somsak Kiatsuranant was elected the first deputy House Speaker, beating Democrat Party nominee Khunying Kalaya Soponpanich 303 to 170 votes. Six coalition government MPs voted for Kalaya. Col Apiwan Wiriyachai was automatically elected as the second deputy House Speaker as he was a sole nominee.
