The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry will provide loans totalling Bt200 million to palm-oil producers in 13 targeted provinces in the South and East to replant oil palms as part of its plan to increase production.
Anand Phusitthikul, secreatary-general of Agricultural Land Reform Office, said the fund would increase the number of palm fields and improve oil palms covering 150,000 rai.
The office is accelerating setting up 120 learning centres in the South and 49 centres in the East. The centres will provide farm knowledge and encourage palm growers to form community enterprises. The enterprises will focus on developing palm oil and related products.
The office also plans to encourage palm growers to feed oxen in their plantation area to generate extra income. The project has a target of 7,000 oxen.
