Parliament opens

His Majesty the King will be represented by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn at the opening of Parliament at the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall at 4.30pm today.

The House is scheduled to elect a speaker and two deputies tomorrow. The coalition government is expected to meet before Friday, when the House will vote for a prime minister, the country's 25th.

Senate's turn

Candidates for elected Senate seats will register between today and Friday at the Public Relations Department and provincial city halls.

The election is on March 2 and will return one representative in each of the 76 provinces. Another 74 senators will be appointed before the end of February.

By-elections

This Sunday will see a by-election in Prachin Buri where Matchima Thipataya candidate Suntorn Wilawan was disqualified.

There is another by-election in Chai Nat where Chart Thai candidates Monthien and Nanthana Songpracha were disqualified.
