2008 export growth at 10-12.5%

Thai Commerce Minister targets the exports this year to grow by 10 to 12.5 per cent to be around US$165 billion.

Krirk-krai Jirapaet said during the press conference on Monday that the exports in 2007 rose by 17.5 per cent to US$152.47 billion, better than the initial expectation of 12.5 per cent.

Krirk-krai said that Thai exports still have prospects to grow, based on the assumption that the average value of Thai baht would be Bt33.5 this year while the average oil price would be around 85 US dollar a barrel.

Imports last year meanwhile rose by 8.7 per cent to US$140.01 billion. Thus, Thailand saw the trade surplus of Bt12.46 billion last year. - The Nation
