Last-gasp win for Getafe against troubled Sevilla

Madrid (dpa) - Getafe kicked off the second half of the Spanish season on Saturday with a heart-stopping 3-2 defeat of troubled Sevilla.

Veteran full-back Cosmin Contra won the lively game for Getafe two minutes into stoppage time by heading in a free-kick from Jaime Gavilan.

Sevilla had appeared to have earned a point when defender Ivica Dragutinovic headed in a corner to make it 2-2 in the 88th minute.

But the Sevilla defence, which has sagged so alarmingly this season, then failed to hold firm in injury time.

The last-gasp win takes Michael Laudrup's Getafe up to 10th in La Liga, with 24 points from 20 games.

Sevilla - who were bundled out of the King's Cup on Tuesday by Barcelona - are eighth with 26 points.

The game started brightly for Sevilla, with league top scorer Luis Fabiano heading them into the lead after 16 minutes.

In the 32nd minute, veteran midfielder Francisco Casquero, playing against his former club, made it 1-1. On the hour, Juan Albin put Getafe ahead by heading in a centre from Pablo Hernandez.

Then came Dragutinovc's equalizer, which Sevilla failed to hold onto.

Later on Saturday, fifth-placed Villarreal take on local rivals Valencia, who have suffered even more problems this season than Sevilla.
