Reading: “Krishanamurti on Education” by J Krishanamurti
“I have great respect for Krishanamurti for his
philosophy of education. I’m touched by his analysis of the relations
between education and an understanding of oneself. He observes that
education in the secular world tends to focus on external sciŽences too
much, and that this has conŽtributed to our inadequate underŽstanding
of one’s inner life. For some reason, the knowledge acquired in the
secular world has some impact on our spiritual life too. He asks, how
much do we know about subjects like our happiness and peaceful
coexistence? I admit it’s sort of a difficult read, but it’s a fine
intellectual exercise too. “He tends to raise
questions in his prose that are thoughtprovoking while encouraging the
reader to question his ideas. An intellectual contest kicks in at some
point here. I like this book because his ideas seem to challenge
traditional beliefs in education and can be very unpredictable.”
