"I am ready to lead the opposition and I am not disappointed at the situation," he said.
He called on coalition
partners to dispel lingering doubts over the position of prime minister by quickly endorsing People Power Party leader Samak Sundaravej for the job.
"The Democrats have no problem. We are ready to do our job according to the system. But we are waiting for Parliament to convene and to see each party's stance.
The coalition parties should say whom they will choose to be the prime minister," he
said.
When asked whether the Democrats need to talk to Chart Thai leader Banharn Silapa-archa, Abhisit said Chart Thai had decided to join the PPP-led government, but Banharn was still welcome for a talk.
He said the Democrats would follow the law for working in Parliament.
Deputy leader and Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin said the government and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will be able to work together if the government works for the sake of the people.
His term as Bangkok governor will run for another eight months.
