Terrorists to be blocked

Information and Communications Technology Ministry permanent secretary Sue Lo-Uthai said yesterday it would work closely with national-security agencies to prevent terrorists from gaining access to the country's satellites.

His remarks came after the announcement by Shin Satellite (ShinSat) on Wednesday that it had terminated a signal-transmission test of Lebanese television station al-Manar. It is alleged to have connections with Shi'ite militant group Hizbollah.

The ministry established a committee to look into the matter.

ShinSat conducted a transmission test for al-Manar earlier this month, but had severed links this past Friday after learning its background.

ShinSat insisted it had proceeded with the testing before learning of the station's connections.
