Thai pairs off to a flyer in Malaysia

Thailand's Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkam got their mixed-doubles campaign in the Malaysian Open Super Series off to a flying start, dismissing England's Robin Middleton and Jenny Wallwork in straight sets yesterday.

The Thai world No 8, Sudket and Saralee, made short work of their English rivals, sealing a 21-11 22-20 win in just 27 minutes. They next face qualifiers Mohd Razif Abdul Latif and Chong Sookchin of Malaysia. 

Another Thai duo of Songphon Anukrittayawan and Duanganong Aroonkesorn also advanced into the second round with an upset 21-17 12-21 21-15 win over Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg of England. They next face the reigning Asian champions He Hanbin and Yu Yang of China.

Sudket also won in the me-n's doubles, where he teamed up with Phattapol Ngernsrisuk to tame Shuichi Sakamoto and Shintaro Ikeda of Japan 21-16 21-11. An uphill task awaits the Thai men in the second round, where they take on world No 3 Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun.
