Two new judges for Ratchada land case

The Supreme Court voted yesterday to appoint two judges for the panel that will hear the Ratchadaphisek land purchase case, replacing two appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Supreme Court chairman Wirat Limwichai called a meeting of judges to elect those who will hear the case. Prosecutors have indicted deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Khunying Pojaman on charges of malfeasance over the deal.

The judges voted in secret and elected Supreme Court deputy chairman Wattanachai Chotchutrakul and the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for

Political Office Holders chairman Kriangchai Jungjaturapit.

They will replace Juvenile and Family Courts chairman Wasant Soipisut and Environment Litigation Division chairman Surachart Bunsiripan.

The defendants will be allowed to file objections to the appointment.

The panel of judges has scheduled 10am on January 23 for the first hearing.
