MRTA favours BMCL for Blue Line

Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will propose the government award the extended parts of the Blue Line urban train network to Bangkok Metro Plc (BMCL).

Kamropluck Suraswadi, an MRTA director, said that from the agency study, if BMCL is awarded the concession for the extended routes, Hua Lamphong-Bang Khae and Bang Sue-Tha Phra, the cost would be 20 per cent lower than that of other contractors.

BMCL is now the operator of the subway which runs from Hualamphong to Bang Sue.

Kamropluck noted that if a new concessionaire is picked, it would need to invest in all facilities as well as the ticketing system. And the construction cost would then be pushed up by Bt3 billion. He added that if BMCL operates the entire route, it would also means greater convenience to commuters.
