Court to rule on Thaksin factor

The Supreme Court tomorrow rules if an important election challenge merits judicial review.

Democrat candidate Chaiwat Sinsuwong is arguing the People Power Party should be disqualified from the election because it is a nominee of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai. He argues PPP leader Samak Sundaravej is a proxy, that advance voting was invalid and the distribution of video discs featuring former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was illegal.

The court could overturn the PPP's election victory.

To join or not to join

Thursday sees the Chart Thai and Puea Pandin parties announce their decision about joining a PPP-led coalition.

Endorsements continue

The Election Commission will continue announcing election results it has endorsed, and by Thursday the number of confirmed members of Parliament should reach 456, the figure needed to convene a legal House.

The names could include PPP deputy leader Yongyuth Tiyapairat. The commission has said if an investigation into alleged electoral fraud by Yongyuth is not completed by tomorrow it will endorse his election.

It can disqualify elected members after they have been approved.
