PPP MPs consider 'switch'

People Power Party MPs are considering whether to move to a new camp if their deputy leader Yongyuth Tiyaphairat is slapped with a red card for electoral fraud, a source said yesterday.

The MPs feared such a move could set in motion legal actions that could eventually force the dissolution of the party.

The source said several key members and the party's legal staff were concerned about Yongyuth's fate.

There is much anxiety as many members fear the Election Commission was likely to penalise Yongyuth.

According to law, elected MPs can switch to a new camp within 60 days if their party was dissolved.

They are considering whether to join the New Alternative Party, a former party of PPP's party list MP Chalerm Yoobamrung.

"Chalerm might become the party leader because he was not among PPP's executives," the source said.
