TRF spurs universities' R&D
The Thailand Research Fund is hopeful that universities will be the spearhead in increasing and commercialising Thailand's intellectual property (IP) assets, which will in turn boost the country's competitiveness.
Speaking at a two-day seminar that ended on Friday, Jiranee Tantiratanavong, deputy secretary-general of the fund, said creating IP was a major mission of education institutions.
"This will enhance national competitiveness and reduce imports. This is an urgent mission as we are latecomers in this regard, having started 30 years after Singapore," Jiranee said.
Pushing the initiative will be a 15-year higher-education development plan from 2008-2023, which aims to link educational institutions with the manufacturing sector in creating and commercialising new innovations.
