The Stock Exchange of Thailand Index briefly touched 789.18 points in the afternoon session, before moving up to 801.74 points as of 2.57pm.
The index finally ended the day at 3.71 points to 796.47 and the blue-chip SET-50 index slipped 3.30 points to 576.92.
Dealers attributed the volatility to the expectation the US Federal Reserve Board could slash its policy rate by 50 basis points to shore up the domestic lending market. Meanwhile, investors are also concerned with the gloomy political picture, following the delays in forming the government.
