October public debts at 37.95% of GDP

Outstanding public debts as of October 2008 was up Bt3.4 billion from the previous month to Bt3.2 trillion or 37.95 per cent of gross domestic product.



According to the Public Debt Management Office, the figures were higher due to the borrowing of non-financial agencies of Bt22.3 billion. In the month, the government's direct borrowing dropped Bt8.9 billion month on month while the debt of the Financial Institutions Development Fund declined Bt1.2 billion and other agencies Bt8.8 billion.

 Out of total, Bt2 trillion of the outstanding debts belonged to the government, Bt929.67 billion to non-financial state enterprises, Bt183.94 billion to the FIDF, and Bt26.79 billion to other agencies.

 Of total, foreign debts accounted for Bt414 billion or 13.02 per cent while local borrowings topped Bt2.77 billion or 86.98 per cent.

 Of total, 88.82 per cent of the debts or Bt2.8 trillion is long-term while 11.18 per cent or 11.18 per cent are short-term.
