Fuel tariff now bound to rise

The fuel tariff for February to May will definitely rise due to the increase in natural-gas prices, Energy Ministry deputy permanent secretary Norkhun Sitthipong said yesterday.

Published on January 11, 2008

As chairman of the subcommittee on fuel tariffs, Norkhun said the cost of gas, the main fuel for power generation, was Bt11 per million BTUs above target.

"Every Bt10 increase in gas prices will boost power prices by 6 satang per unit. However, it is still uncertain if the tariff for the February-May period will go up by that amount. If power demand drops as expected, generating costs will also fall," Norkhun said.

Resort opens

The Millennium Resort Patong Phuket is now open on Patong Beach. The property is the latest property to join the Millennium and Copthorne Hotels (M&C) global portfolio.

To celebrate the opening, the resort is offering a special introductory room rate starting from Bt4,300 per night from January 20 to February 29. Millennium Resort Patong is owned by Phuket Square and managed by M&C. Phuket Square is the owner and developer of the Jungceylon shopping and leisure complex where the hotel is located.

Fashion drive

Robinson department stores, together with AirAsia, Tops Supermarket, Bonus Travel and four international tourism agencies, will roll out "Robinson Asian Fashion Chic 2008" from January 17 to February 14 at all its branches. The campaign will offer a wide range of fashion merchandise plus shopping offers to stimulate sales during Chinese New Year.
