BOI investment in 2007 tops Bt655 billion.

The Board of Investment reported that the combined value projects sought the investment privileges last year topped Bt655 billion, higher by 32 per cent from the year before. The foreign direct investment last year consists of 846 projects worth Bt502.73 billion, an increase by 63 per cent, thanks to an investment expansion from Japan, the US and the European Union.

Last year, a total of 1,318 projects with a combined investment of Bt655.8 billion sought the BOI blessings, compared to the previous year when combined investment projects totalled Bt494.2 billion. The most popular category of investment projects are service and public utilities, totalling 341 projects with a combined investment of Bt172.7 billion, following by the automotive and part industry and machinery, totalling 273 projects with a combined investment of Bt171.2 billion. The third most active category is the petrochemical, pulp and plastic, totalling 173 projects worth a combined Bt151.8 billion.
