Carragher was abused, allege Liverpool

London (dpa) - Liverpool alleged Tuesday that defender Jamie Carragher was spat at and had beer thrown at him during Sunday's FA Cup ties away to Luton Town.

The 29-year-old was pictured climbing a barrier to confront fans, but no complaint was made to either local police or the Football Association.

"Jamie went to sign autographs for youngsters in the executive boxes," said a Liverpool spokesman.

"Unfortunately, he was subjected to a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse and also had beer thrown at him."

Luton confirmed their safety officer is investigating the incident.

The tie finished 1-1, and the sides will meet again in the replay at Anfield next Tuesday.
