Group managing director Lim Lai Huat said the Malaysian company's subsidiary, Changhuat Plastic Industries (Rayong), was doing well supplying plastic-moulded parts and components for major automotive makers in the Kingdom.

He said its second plant in Phetchaburi had secured contracts to supply parts and components to two major makers of printers and scanners.

Lim said it would also supply parts and components to two washing-machine companies that had relocated their operations from Australia and New Zealand to Thailand.

The company is also looking at producing more medical devices as a long-term strategy to stay competitive in plastic injection-moulding.

Lim said that among other products, the company planned to make medical syringes and related equipment at its Senai plant. "The prospect for medical devices is good as people are becoming more health-conscious." Lim said the company had ventured into medical devices production in July 2006 by making circumcision jigs, which it exported to Southeast Asian countries.

He said production stood at about 10,000 pieces monthly. The firm is looking to expand capacity and market the product to the Middle East this year.

Changhuat will focus on manufacturing disposable medical devices, as the operating cost would be lower with the bigger production volume.

Changhuat has diversified its product range, which consisted only of automobile and electrical, and electronics appliance parts and components previously.
