The Ministry of Public Health is using the Internet to help distribute learning kits as an aid for parents to develop their children's IQ and EQ.
A new website developed by the Department of Mental Health has sections to improve IQ and EQ, including electronic learning (e-learning), a test kit to develop knowledge, and an online evaluation.
Department of Mental Health director-general Dr Somchai Chakrabhand said parents and nursery school teachers can download content from www.iqeqdekthai.com.
In the first section, parents learn how to improve the IQ and EQ of their children through guidelines and 14 animated slide-shows. Parents learn step by step and can apply the content from this section easily.
In the second section, parents use an electronic card (e-card) with different designs as a tool to tell children and their friends about how to improve relationship in family.
If parents want to increase their children's knowledge, they can go to the third session, which offers specific advice and information to improve children's skills.
The last section provides for an evaluation test. After answering the questions on the evaluation form, the result is computed and shows the level of IQ and EQ development.
However, Dr Panpimol Lotrakul, director of the Rajanukul Institute, said according to the ministry's records last year, about 30 per cent of Thai children still have problems with mental and emotional development. Most of them are disadvantaged and lack learning and adaptation skills.
To help resolve the problem, parents are advised to provide good nutrition and holistic learning activities, she said.
