Violence in Deep South kills two

A bomb exploded in a Narathiwat market yesterday, injuring one. Separately, two were shot dead in Pattani.

A home-made bomb attached to a motorcycle and parked near a butcher's shop at a Muang district market exploded, police said.

Lianhing Chotikarn, 43, was injured and admitted to Narathiwat provincial hospital.

A teenager wearing a white cap was seen parking the motorcycle before being ridden away by an associate on another. The bomb exploded three minutes later, police said.

Police found the motorcycle was owned by Pitsanu Sosuwanwong. They are endeavouring to learn if it has been reported stolen.

In Pattani, Charas Sunthornthavorn, 54, was shot in the head Yarang shop by two men as he was making a purchase. The attackers smashed the victim's vehicle window, stole money, then fled. Police suspect the killing was business-related.

In Khok Pho district, Yabulloh Yamuyeema, 42, was shot along a roadside by two suspected insurgents on motorcycle as he returned home from work at a rubber traders. They fled on foot after their victim knocked them off.

Yabulloh died later in hospital from three gunshot wounds.
