Court to reveal names of judges 2 days before hearing

The Supreme Court will withhold names of the judges in election-related cases until two days before hearings commence, judge Wirat Chinwinijkul said yesterday.

"All 50 judges of the court are on the roster of presiding judges, but they will be picked by Supreme Court president Virat Limvichai just two days before the hearing," he said.

Wirat explained the judicial procedures in light of a high-profile hearing scheduled for January 15. In it, the People Power Party is accused of being a nominee of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party, and its leader Samak Sundaravej a proxy.

Should the court rule to penalise the winning party, it could lead to the cancellation of its victory, and a massive re-election.

Democrat candidate Chaiwat Sinsuwong initiated the litigation. The People Power can submit its defence before January 14.
