Dr Ampika was the first medical lecturer to receive a scholarship from the Mor Chao Fa Fund, which was founded in honour of the Princess' father, HRH the Prince of Songkhla.
Established in 1984, the fund has granted scholarships to 25 medical lecturers and more than 600 medical students.
"I am proud to have received the scholarship from this fund. It's an honour to my family too," Ampika said. The doctor studied in the United States before returning to work in Thailand.
Impressed by the Princess' graciousness, Ampika now serves as secretary of the Mor Chao Fa Fund.
Ampika vowed yesterday to continue working in line with the principles laid down by the Princess, especially in work relating to the fund.
