Request to maintain fares

Transport Minister Theera Haocharoen yesterday suggested the boards of Transport Co and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority revise their resolutions to increase fares that were earlier scheduled to take effect on January 15, in order to ease the burden on the populace.

He ordered the two boards to consider whether the organisations could subsidise the increase of transportation costs. He would like them to maintain current transportation fares. The results of the considerations would be proposed to the Central Transport Control Committee.

Land Transport Department director-general Silpachai Jarukasemratana said his department had also asked metered-taxi drivers not to increase fares, because high oil prices did not directly affect their costs. Most metered taxis run on natural gas.

Fashion fest

The Emporium shopping complex, in alliance with major business partners, will host Emporium World Fashion Showcase 2008, to help put Thailand on the world fashion stage.

The event will be held from January 31 to February 6 at the Thailand Creative and Design Centre in The Emporium.

"We've joined with world-famous fashion names, including Chanel, Chloe, Fendi, Kenzo, Salvatore Ferragamo and Valentino, to present the latest spring and summer 2008 collection for the very first time in Asia," said Kriengsak Tantiphipop, senior managing director of The Emporium.
