Government declares 15-day mourning

State officials and employees will mourn the death of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana for 15 days and government offices and schools to lower flags at half mast in the same period.



Royal Family members and court officials will observe the black dress code for 100 days.

Following the Royal Household Bureau's announcement that the princess passed away at the Siriraj Hospital at 2.54am Wednesday, the PM's Office announced the 15-day mourning period.

His Majesty the King had granted permission of the bathing rite for the public for HRH Princess Kalyani Vadhana at Saha Thai Samakhom Pavilion, Grand Palace.

The rite, conducted in front of the Princess's portrait will be from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday. The Royal Family members and palace officials would involve in the 100day funeral.

At 3 pm, the funeral procession of the body of the princess from the Siriraj Hospital to the Royal Palace will commence and a large number of people are expected to line up the streets for the procession. Police have advised motorists to avoid the roads linking the Siriraj Hospital and the Royal Palace.

Pol Maj Gen Phanu Kerdlarpphol, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said traffic would be closed on the roads in front of Siriraj, parts of Pinklao Road, the Pinklao Bridge and part of Rajdamnone Avenue leading to the Royal Palace.

The Bureau of the Royal Household had earlier released the 38th statement concerning HRH Princess was not responsive and her respiratory system and kidney functions had begun to degrade Tuesday evening.

HRH Princess had been treated since June 15 for cancer.
