Police said the blaze began in one of the warehouses on a 12-rai site in Tambon Bangkaew and quickly spread to a nearby unit. Investigators suspected an electrical short-circuit was the cause.
Security guard Songpong Patmanee, 30, told police that he lived on the premises with his wife and guarded the warehouses for PU Matt company owner Sam-ang Jaiseukul.
He said he was drinking with two friends when he heard a series of explosions. Thick smoke and fire rapidly consumed the flammable goods and spread to another storage facility. He alerted the police and fire department immediately.
Another fire broke out at a wood-processing factory in Bangkok's Bang Na district at about 5am yesterday.
Police and 10 fire engines rushed to the Chor Rungsin factory near the mouth of Sukhumvit Soi 66/1. Firefighters took about 20 minutes to put out the blaze, which almost consumed the whole building. A short-circuit probably sparked the fire.
Meanwhile, a rubber factory in Yala's Betong district also caught fire. It took firefighters an hour to get the blaze under control and damage was estimated at about Bt300,000.
