The Princess had a blood infection and was fatigued, the statement said.

A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition and has prescribed her antibiotics.

The 84-year-old princess has been receiving treatment at the Siriraj Hospital for months.

HM the King Bhumibol Adulyadej went to Siriraj Hospital yesterday evening to visit the princess, who is his elder sister.

The King was welcomed on his arrival by well-wishers who flocked to the Siriraj Centennial Pavilion to sign get-well messages to the princess.

Chanakan Pongmeesee, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat, said she planned to spend her New Year holiday at the hospital, as she wanted to hand a message to the princess.

Royal Household Bureau officials gave photos and a biography about the princess to all the well-wishers.
